The Shield provides excellent cover on-the-go.

"A transparent, polycarbonate shield that can stop bullets and provide cover from explosives, but still leaves the user vulnerable to hand-to-hand combat."

Gameplay details

The Shield is equipped by pushing the Front Item or Back Item keybind, assigned to the number one key (1) and the number two key (2) respectively.

There is a brief delay when being pulled out and being put away where it will provide no cover.

While crouching, the shield will clip into the ground to fully cover the user. Crouch walking will raise the shield enough to warrant looking slightly downwards to fully cover the feet. Crouch walking left or right can expose the knee or foot.

Cannot be held while prone. Cannot be used on ladders or in water.

Explosions send out "rays" to detect if they hit a player. If all explosion rays are blocked then a player will take no damage. This can even protect someone from a mortar strike! CS Gas ignores shields.

    • Patch 449 - Fixed shield collisions so bullets no longer occasionally pass through, much more effective!

Gameplay

By default, you must pick up a Shield by walking up to it and pressing "V". The shield will need to be bound to a key and typically this open slot is "2". The shield may be able to protect you from a sea of bullets but has many vulnerabilities. The sides and back of your character are unprotected as the shield is only effective if you're looking directly at your enemy. The shield protects against explosives only if you look directly at the source of the explosive. If the explosive is behind or beside the unprotected portions of your character, your character will lose balance. A banana can cause shielded enemies to lose balance. Going Prone with your shield will unequip the item and be stored back in your inventory. A common way to counter a shielded enemy is to run up, shove them so they lose balance, and arrest. In addition, the feet of a standing/running player that has a shield are exposed; they can be targeted.
