Introduction
Project Stormos is the first commercial release by Superboss Games. It is a 2.5D "Anti-platformer" where you control the character "Robo", a robot with the ability to dash through the air, slicing orbs and enemies to gain more dashes. You can download the current version (0.300a) after creating an account and buying the game on projectstormos.com
Overview
Project Stormos was first started by developer Robert Storm as a Game Maker project in 2006. In 2009, Storm made the game in XNA, but in May 2011 it was completely redone in Unity and first released to public in September 2011. Storm started a Kickstarter on the 17th of August 2011 which was successfully funded on 16th of September 2011. Currently there are over 1361 users registered at projectstormos.com
Gameplay
The goal in each level is to reach a purple orb by chaining together dashes through obstacles and not touching the ground, which gives it the label, "Anti-platformer" (visit the Controls page to see how the character is controlled). The dashes are displayed by three green orbs surrounding the character "Robo". Each dash costs one orb, which you regain by dashing through enemies/orange orbs, landing on a platform, or by slicing targets with your sword. If you complete the entire level without touching a platform, you unlock the "SP Version" of the level: a modified version of the original level with a higher difficulty. You can also compete with players all over the world in the online leaderboards. In the current version 0.300a, a multiplayer mode was added. You can create a room and up to 9 more players can join you in beating the levels, or you can create a level in the level editor together and publish it to the community board. Players can also watch spectate others by clicking on their names in order to give them advice or show them shortcuts.
Level Design
In Project Stormos there are 5 worlds, each containing 6 normal and 6 SP levels: Dunes, Islands, Cliffs, Canyon and Void. Most of the levels in Project Stormos are designed to contain multiple paths to the goal. There are many obstacles in your way, such as barriers that kill you and enemies who shoot projectiles that briefly disable your character. To aid you in your goal, there are fire rings that launch you and platforms that let you regain a dash.
Music
There are 10 songs included in Project Stormos: "Kill Break Final", "IslandTheme", "VictorySong", "Dub Crepe 2", "Sail to the Sun", "Cosmic Distress", "Pirate theme", "RobosTheme", "Intense2" and "MainLevelTheme". Robert Storm composed every song of the soundtrack; you are able to listen to some of the pieces on his soundcloud account.
